Askira: What soldiers, Chibok residents remember first highest-ranking fallen soldier for
Brig-Gen. Dzarma Zirkusu killed by ISWAP in an ambush Saturday was the highest-ranking soldier to have fallen in the decade-long counterinsurgency in the northeast.
Zirkusu and three soldiers died in an ambush laid by ISWAP on Saturday.
The general was in January moved from Headquarters 1 Brigade, Gusau, to headquarters 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok, as commander.
He hailed from Adamawa.
Some officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces especially those in the north east described his death as a big loss to the military.
“This is a black Saturday. I am devastated; I am deeply pained. Brigadier General Zirkusu was a patriotic Nigerian who fought for its liberation,” a colonel told the Daily Trust.
Chibok residents also spoke well of him, especially for being a patriotic Nigerian.
