LG chairman cries out, bandits chase 2000 persons from ancestral homes to IDP camps in Niger
The incessant attacks by bandits have compelled about 2,000 persons to flee their ancestral homes and relocate to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps for temporary safety in Niger State. Over 1,600 persons were revealed to have abandoned their homes to seek refuge at selected refugee camps in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State.
The Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area, Sulaiman Chukuba, in a media interaction, lamented that victims of bandits’ perennial attacks and onslaught of their communities were forced out of their ancestral homes to IDP camps in the LGA.
Sulaiman Chukuba disclosed that over 500 persons are taking shelter at the Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Kuta, adding that over additional 1,000 IDPs are in Gwada Camp.
The Chairman decried the consequences of having people displaced from their homes for a long period and the burden on the Local Government authorities. He acknowledged the efforts of the military and the police to bring the situation under control in Niger State, especially, in Shiroro Local Government.
