Is air conditioning safe for babies?
Air conditioning in your baby’s room might provide comfort from the sweltering summer heat which creates a relaxing environment in which your baby can sleep soundly.
An air conditioner can help lower the risk of dehydration and sudden infant death syndrome caused by high indoor room temperatures. However, because new borns’ bodies are not fully formed to regulate their body temperature, you must take specific steps to maintain an appropriate temperature.
Here are safety tips for using an air conditioner for a baby
1 Keep the ideal temperature
Try to keep the room temperature at a comfortable level and avoid making it excessively chilly, as this might cause hypothermia in babies.
2 Place air vents away from the crib
Make sure the baby’s crib is not too close to the air conditioner’s air vents. Your infant may become chilly as a result of the direct cold air. Position the cot away from the air conditioning vents while constructing your baby’s nursery.
3 Dress the baby appropriately
Wear light layers that cover your baby’s arms and you can also use a soft cap to cover your baby’s head. This would keep the infant from being chilled. Even though the room temperature is ideal, you should cover your infant with an extra layer if they are sleeping in an air-conditioned environment.
4 Control the air conditioning timer
It is important to keep the air conditioner on for a limited time to protect the room from becoming excessively cold. Set the alarm clock on your air conditioner to the time it takes to cool the room down. If your air conditioner does not have an alarm clock, set an alarm on your smartphone.
