Names and states of origin of six INEC commissioners sworn in by Buhari today
President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated six new commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at Aso Rock on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
The swearing-in ceremony took place shortly before the Federal Executive Council meeting at Aso Villa.
The event was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, was also present at the event.
The national assembly had earlier screened and passed the appointees for the positions.
Here are the names and states of origin of the new commissioners:
1. Mohammed Haruna – Niger (North Central)
2. Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu – Delta (South-South)
3. Ukaegbu Nnamdi – Abia (South-East)
4. Abubakar Alkali – Adamawa (North-East)
5. Professor Rhoda Gumus – Bayelsa (South-South)
6. Mr Sam Olumekun – Ondo (South-West)
No one was nominated from the North-West geopolitical zone.
Speaking with journalists after the event, Professor Yakubu said that with the swearing-in of the six appointees, INEC now has 12 commissioners as required by law.
