Oyegun floors Tinubu’s call for his resignation
The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has reacted to the call for his resignation by the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Speaking to State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, October 4, Odigie-Oyegun said that he cannot be removed from office on the pages of newspapers.
Our source said that Odigie-Oyegun’s visit to the president was over rift between him and Tinubu and the manner in which the Ondo state governorship primary was conducted which was won by Chief Rotimi Akeredolu.
When asked to speak on the content of the letter, Odigie-Oyegun said the process to remove a chairman was contained in the party’s constitution.
He also said that there were no differences between him and Tinubu adding that the National Executive Committee would meet at the appropriate time.

“There is no rift with Asiwaju. We have a difference of opinion, difference of perception and I think that is normal. Yes, I agree that the nature of the statement was a bit harsh.
“The methods of getting rid of a national chairman, if that is what I will call it, are spelt out in the constitution. They don’t take place on the pages of newspapers. It is proper for them to meet and they will all meet at the appropriate time,” he said.
It will be recalled that on Sunday, September 25, Tinubu demanded the resignation of Oyegun through his media office.
The former governor of Lagos state allegedly accused Oyegun of sabotaging the will of democracy in Ondo state by sending the name of Rotimi Akeredolu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the decision of the appeal panel that demanded for a fresh governorship primary election in the party for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
He said Oyegun has robbed APC members in Ondo State the chance to pick the best candidate for the governor’s seat.
