Akwa Ibom Police arrest Armed Robbery syndicate targeting passengers and traders

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully apprehended a robbery syndicate known for ambushing and robbing passengers and traders.

The arrest was made following a coordinated operation by the police.

On Wednesday, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Timfon John, revealed that the arrests occurred at the Command’s headquarters in Uyo.

The operation took place around the Ekom Iman axis, a known hotspot for the armed robbers  gang’s activities.

ASP John detailed that the police received a crucial tip-off from one of the victims, leading to the swift arrest of a suspect identified as Ukpono Ekopntak.

Authorities also recovered two motorcycles used in the heists.

Other members of the syndicate managed to escape but remain under active pursuit by law enforcement.

According to ASP John, the arrest was part of the Akwa Ibom Police Command’s intensified efforts to combat crime in the state.

The police had been on a routine ‘stop and search’ patrol at the Ekom Iman roundabout when they were approached by a businessman who had recently been robbed.

The businessman had been traveling from Aba, Abia State, when the incident occurred.

The police are continuing their efforts to track down the remaining suspects and dismantle the criminal network.
