Police arraign teenager over alleged theft of goods worth N1.2m

The police arraigned a teenager, Abubakar Muhammad, on Tuesday before an Ota Magistrates ‘Court, Ogun, over alleged theft of goods valued N1.2 million.

Muhammad, 18, whose address was not given, is being charged with burglary, stealing, conspiracy and malicious damage, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others now at large, committed the offences on Jan. 17, at Ogun Housing Estate. Ota.

Adaraloye said that Muhammad broke into the Complainant, Akande Aderemi’s house, and stole a 45-inch Samsung flat screen television, DSTV cable, decoder and other items worth N1.2 million.

The prosecutor further said that the defendant damaged roofing sheets and inner ceiling of the house valued N1.3 million.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 319(9), 412, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Fadairo said that the sureties should be gainfully employed, and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She further said that the sureties must provide evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
