Drivers of Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on strike
By MERCY BEN-KALIO
Lagosians were stranded at Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) terminals across the state this Monday as the drivers commenced strike action to protest months of unpaid salaries and allowances by the Lagos State Government.
National Daily is still making inquiries into the strike action to ascertain how many months were the drivers owed their salaries and allowances; if the authorities were put on notice before the drivers embarked on strike and what the Lagos Sate Government is doing to ensure that the strike does not last long. Findings will be made public in subsequent reports.
Meanwhile, National Daily reiterate that the strike which commenced this Monday left millions of commuters stranded and frustrated at bus terminals. This culminated into sharp increase in transport fares by other commercial bus operators, danfo drivers, who find a field day to exploit workers and traders in the state who rely on BRT for movement to their business locations and offices.
