Senator Jibrin Isah rejects Kogi East APC primary results

Senator Jibrin Isah has rejected the outcome of the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary election in Kogi East, alleging widespread irregularities and violations of party guidelines during the exercise.

The senator, popularly known as Echocho, accused organizers of manipulating delegate lists and compromising the credibility of the primary process.

Speaking during a briefing with supporters and party loyalists in Lokoja, Isah described the conduct of the election as a “mockery of internal democracy,” claiming that verified delegate lists approved by the party’s national secretariat were replaced with unverified names shortly before voting commenced.

According to him, the alleged changes created confusion at the venue and disrupted the voting process across parts of the district.

The lawmaker also alleged intimidation of delegates and accused local organizers of disregarding established electoral procedures.

“I completely reject the figures being circulated from the exercise,” Isah said, insisting that the process did not reflect the will of party members in Kogi East.

Kogi East, which comprises nine local government areas dominated largely by the Igala ethnic group, remains one of the most politically significant senatorial districts in the state.

Political observers say the dispute could deepen tensions within the APC in Kogi State ahead of future elections if not properly resolved.

Senator Isah confirmed that his legal and political teams have submitted a formal petition to the APC National Primary Election Appeals Committee in Abuja, requesting the cancellation of the primary and the conduct of a fresh exercise under the supervision of neutral party officials.

The petition, according to his camp, includes video footage and documentary evidence intended to support the allegations of irregularities.

Meanwhile, the APC leadership has appealed to party members and supporters in the state to remain calm, assuring that all complaints arising from the primaries would be reviewed by the National Working Committee before final decisions are taken.
