Bayelsa launches drones to fight crime
The Bayelsa government said it plans to launch a crime control drone system to assist in the prevention of crime and criminality in the state.
No fewer than four drones will be deployed to each police station in the state.Commissioner for Science and Technology, Chief Blessing Ipigansi-Izagara said the plan was developed by an indigenous manpower and technology system agency.
The commissioner spoke in Yenagoa during the inter-ministerial briefing to mark the sixth Anniversary of the Seriake Dickson-led administration.
The system would have a direct link to the police on patrol duty at different locations. Each of the four drones has the speed limit of 150 kilometres per hour.
According to the commissioner, since inception of the current administration, the ministry has collaborated with federal and foreign agencies in the areas of training and capacity.
He also emphasised the zero tolerance of the state governor to criminality as the driving force behind the drone project.
