5000 Kwakwanso supporters back in APC to work for Buhari

No fewer than 5000 members of the Kwakwansiyya, a political movement of PDP presidential ticket loser Sen. Rabiu Kwakwanso, have returned to the APC.

The Kebbi branch of the movement were reportedly received by Samaila Yombe, deputy-governor of the state, at the APC secretariat, Birnin-Kebbi on Tuesday.

There’s no official statement from Sen. Kwakwanso confirming this yet.

The former Kano governor has been quiet—at least he’s not spoken on how to help PDP win—since he lost woefully to former V.P. Atiku Abubakar in the primary election that took place in Rivers.

Kwakwanso had thought himself the bride of the north, and had dumped the APC months to the primary election to grab the PDP ticket.

Abdullahi Nayalwa, the group’s former state organising secretary, said they took the decision because of the “landmark achievements” of President Muhammadu Buhari and the governor of the state, Abubakar Bagudu, in agriculture and other sectors.

“We have finally dumped PDP and joined APC because APC administration is the only government that can bring change and unity in the country,” Nayalwa said.

“We have gone to the market and the market was not favourable. We decided to return home with over 5,000 of our members and more are coming by God’s grace”.

Yombe commended them for taking the decision to return to the APC and assured them of equal treatment.

He described their return to the party as timely, saying they had chosen the right path.

Whatever the mass defection signifies—return of Kwakwanso to the APC or something else—will be clearer as Kwakwanso responds.
