Maradona: Guardiola is just so lucky, Mourinho is way better
Jose Mourinho may be going through yet another difficult third season as a manager, but he still retains at least one high-profile supporter.
Argentina icon Diego Maradona believes the Manchester United boss remains the best in world football.
The Old Trafford club find themselves eighth in the table and behind Watford and Bournemouth after conceding 21 goals in the opening 12 games.
But Maradona remains convinced that Mourinho has enough credit in the bank.
‘For me yes, Mou is the best,’ he told Marca.
Pep Guardiola has Manchester City flying in the Premier League once more, but Maradona believes he has received a significant helping hand in his managerial career.
‘I would give Pep the merit of taking advantage of the launch that Johan Cruyff gave him,’ he continued.
‘I have said on more than one occasion that tiki-taka was not invented by Guardiola. It was ‘Flaco’ Cruyff.
‘At the moment Pep is able to choose any player in the world that he wants. That way tiki-taka is easier.’
Guardiola masterminded an emphatic 3-1 Manchester derby victory on Sunday which saw City maintain their two-point lead at the top of the table.
