Akpabio cries out over low allocation to Niger Delta Ministry
The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, defending the ministry’s 2022 budget proposal before the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs on Thursday, cried out over low budgetary allocation to the ministry. He decried that paucity of funds allocated to the Ministry hampers the development of the Niger Delta.
Akpabio noted that the capital budget of N28.1 billion for the Ministry of Niger Delta for year 2022 is insufficient and significantly inadequate to meet the expectations of the people of the Niger Delta.
The Minister appealed to the lawmakers to consider an increase in the capital allocation to enable the ministry to sustain all round development of the region.
Senator Akpabio highlighted that ministry’s 2022 budget proposal as total estimate N28.1 billion, Personnel cost N1.69 billion, Overhead cost N877 million and N25.5 billion for capital expenditure.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, promised Senator Akpabio that the committee will interface with the leadership of the Senate on the need to provide adequate funds for the Ministry in view of the economic importance of the Niger Delta region to the country.
