Buhari’s burial rescheduled for Tuesday as remains arrive Nigeria from London
The burial of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been officially rescheduled to Tuesday, July 15, 2025, following adjustments made in consultation with his family and associates in London.
Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State confirmed the development while addressing journalists on Monday in Katsina. According to the governor, the body of the late president will arrive in Nigeria by 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and burial rites will commence at 2:00 p.m. in Daura, Buhari’s hometown.
“We have consulted with his family and those around him in London, and we’ve concluded that the body will arrive tomorrow at noon,” Governor Radda stated.

The remains of the former president are currently en route from the United Kingdom, where he died on Sunday, July 13, after a prolonged but undisclosed illness.
In honour of Buhari’s passing, the Katsina State Government declared Monday a public holiday to enable residents to mourn the late statesman. At the federal level, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced seven days of national mourning starting Sunday, with flags to be flown at half-mast across the country.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, remains a towering figure in the country’s political history.
Preparations for his burial are ongoing in Daura, with high-level dignitaries, national leaders, and foreign envoys expected to attend the final rites.
