Suspect murder Shakiru Bello has explained how his wife died, and why he cut her body to pieces in, hid them in abandoned buildings the Yaba area of Lagos, and then took off to Ibadan to avoid the long arms of the law.
He, however, claimed she died in his house where he was treating her after they both had a motorbike accident on the Third Mainland Bridge.
The couple were married for about nine years until their separation last July.
A team of detectives from the Ijora Badia Police Division, headed by ASP Talabi Segun,
recovered Sherifat’s body parts  at different locations in the neighbourhood.
The victim’s father, Akeem, on Tuesday reported a case of missing person to the police, when his daughter didn’t return from a meeting with Bello to discuss their three children’s upkeep.
The father informed the policemen that a number called him that his daughter fell into a lagoon.
“The police tracked the number to Ibadan, and the caller was Bello,” a source disclosed.
The suspect was arrested and brought to Lagos where he led the police to the uncompleted buildings where he hid the body parts.
According to him, he was afraid of reporting her death to her father, who didn’t want to see them together after their break-up.
“I couldn’t report to the police, so I decided to put her body in a sack and dispose of it. When it was not going into the sack, I cut off her arms, head, legs and other parts,” he said.
A police source, however, said the private parts of the victim were missing, saying the suspect might not be acting alone.
The victim’s father, Akeem, said he was informed that his daughter was missing lastTuesday, adding that when he called the suspect, he denied knowing her whereabouts.
He informed the police, and investigations so far have revealed Bello had some accomplices.
The father urged the police to arrest all those involved in the murder
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said investigations were ongoing.
