Election monitors raise transparency concerns over Edo governorship results collation
Several election monitoring organizations have voiced concerns over the transparency of the results collation in the ongoing Edo State governorship election.
In a joint statement issued on Sunday, the Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room, YIAGA Africa, Kimpact Development Initiative, Nigerian Women Trust Fund, ElectHER, and TAF Africa expressed doubts about the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) handling of the process.
“We express our concern regarding the transparency of the current results collation process being conducted by INEC,” the statement read, calling for clearer procedures and public accountability in finalizing the results.

The groups also urged Nigerian security agencies to maintain neutrality and avoid interfering in the process. They emphasized that security forces should focus on protecting the integrity of the election rather than creating situations that could jeopardize the credibility of the outcome.
“Security agencies must safeguard the electoral process and ensure that accredited party agents, the media, and election observers are given full access to collation centers,” the statement added.
The call for transparency and impartiality comes as tensions rise over potential irregularities in the election, with the civil society groups warning that any lack of clarity in the collation process could undermine confidence in the final results.
