Emir of Machina tasks subjects on girl-child education
Alhaji Bashir Bukar-Machinama, the Emir of Machina in Yobe on Monday urged his subjects to ensure they enrol their children for formal education.
Machinama gave the advice in Machina at a town hall meeting on implementation of `Keeping Girls in School Programme’ organised by Machina Emirate.
The National Daily reports that the programme is implemented in Machina and Bade Local Government Areas experiencing low enrolment of girls in schools.
He noted that girl-child education was critical to the success of every society as “ a mother is the first teacher of her child”.
The emir pledged to attract more support for the programme in view of its immense importance to the socio-economic development of the area.
The traditional ruler commended the Girl Child Concerns (GCC) and the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development for their numerous support to girl-child education in his domain.
In his remarks, the Programme’s Focal Person in the area, Alhaji Tijjani Alkali, said critical stakeholders were invited for the meeting to discuss strategies on successful implementation of the programme.
He said the programme was not only interested in enrolment of girls to schools but also to ensure the girls remained and graduated from the school.
Alkali, also the Waziri of the Emirate, cautioned parents against denying girls access to formal education, saying such act was unacceptable.
