Hoodlums attack Sen. Goje’s convoy, prevent him from entering Gombe
Suspected thugs on Friday blocked Gombe-Bauchi Highway near the International Conference Centre, preventing Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje from entering Gombe town.
The irate youths reportedly attacked the former governor’s vehicles with various dangerous weapons.
Lilian Nworie, media aide to Senator Goje told newsmen her boss had traveled to Gomber for a personal engagement.
Nworie said, “Senator Goje had a serious encounter with some political thugs who burnt tyres on the main road as he was about to enter the state capital around International Conference Centre on the Bauchi – Gombe Road.
“Policemen stationed at the area refused to call the thugs to order as they were watching them cause mayhem in the state,” Nworie added.
Goje, who was in Gombe to attend a wedding fatihah, landed at the Gombe Airport in Lawanti, at about 10:40am, and was prevented from entering the town as the hoodlums set bonfires on the road, denying entry into or outside Gombe.
Thousands of commuters were left stranded along the two axis, as no vehicle was allowed into or outside the state.
Security operatives were deployed to restore law and order, as youths carrying weapons were at both side of the divides.
It was reported that the relationship between Goje and his erstwhile godson, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, is sour recently over control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Efforts to get Gombe Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Obed Mary Malum proves abortive, as she is not picking her calls.
