An angry mob on Friday in Calabar, capital city of Cross River State, torched the Royal God’s Commandment Ministry International over an allegation that the founder and General Overseer Anthony Obo kidnapped and killed a one-year-old girl for rituals.
The church which is located at 6, Abua Street off Edegerly  Road is one of the branches of the church while the main auditorium of the church is at Atamunu Road also in Calabar South.
The mob which thronged the Abua church at midmorning  broke into the hall and brought out all the church belongings and set them ablaze.
Okon Asibong, one of the irate youths, said that one of the three persons who kidnapped a girl on Thursday evening and killed her was caught and has confessed that it was the pastor who sent them.
The police has taken him and six others into detention.
“The girl was killed and her heart removed and put in  a basin to be used for ritual and this was discovered in the pastor’s  church so we had to set this place on fire to stop him from coming back to commit havoc again,”said Asibong.
The church which is an attachment on the front of the main  building  of 6 Abua street   used to serve as a  shop but was later converted to a church in 2015.
According to different sources, the pastor was an okada rider until former Gov. Liyel Imoke banned okada in Calabar, after which he started a church in his single room apartment at Atamunu Road where he lived.
He is in police custody and the Cross River Police Command spokesman, Ms Irene Ugbo, said the police are carrying out investigation to find out if the pastor has accomplices.
Pastor Obo is a Cross Riverian from Akamkpa local government area of the state.
