How northern leaders concealed bandits identity as terrorists – Sen Bulkachuwa
A leader in the north, Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, has revealed how northern leaders hid the identity of bandits as terrorists to prevent harsh international attention to northern Nigeria. Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa had on Channels TV on Sunday, monitored from Lagos, declared that bandits are no different from terrorists, adding that they gave them the name “bandits” to soften their identity.
According to Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, “We gave them the name bandit probably to just soft pedal because terrorism in the international arena is regarded as the most heinous crime that any group of people can engage in.”
The senator maintained: “They are terrorists in reality. What else are they? Anybody that does not allow people rest, what is he?”
The two chambers of the National Assembly had last week told President Muhammadu Buhari to declare bandits as terrorists. The bandits have been ravaging northwest Nigeria, making the states in the zone ungovernable.
Many have become victims of kidnapping, sudden death, injuries, by the activities of the bandits. Several others have fled their homes to displaces entities.
The bandits have also developed the capacity to confront the Nigerian military and police, attacking communities, police and military institutions. They subsequently, earn millions of Naira from ransom on kidnapped victims.
