Hushpuppi: IGP insists FBI made no request for extradition Abba Kyari
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, on Thursday stated that there is no formal request for the extradition of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari over his indictment by a US Court handling the Hushpuppi money laundry case.
IGP Alkali Baba emphasized that he only read of extradition on social media, clarifying that there was no extradition request contrary to reports.
The IG said that the investigation panel appointed to investigate the US indictment has submitted its report to Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, for vetting and advice on the findings. Baba acknowledged that the Nigeria Police Force just received feedback from the SGF and is considering the next course of action.
There were reports of a warrant on Abba Kyari issued by a US Magistrate Judge, Otis Wright, directing the arrest of Kyari over his implication in the trial of Ramon Abbas, known as Hushpuppi. The prosecutor had accused Kyari of being a conspirator in a $1.1 million fraud by Ramon Abbas, Hushpuppi, an international Instagram gem.
A US court document had revealed that Hushpuppi bribed Kyari to arrest and jail Chibuzo Vincent, an estranged ‘co-conspirator,’ in a $1.1 million fraud case.
The document also revealed that “Hushpuppi, who had been arrested in Dubai and handed over to US authorities, pleaded guilty to the multi-million-dollar fraud charges filed against him by the US Government.”
Abba Kyari had denied the allegations, explaining that the money he collected from Hushpuppi was for the sewing of some clothes.
