The Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Ajeromi 1 constituency, Hon. Lukman Olumoh has declared that a purposeful engagement of the youthful population remains the only panacea to the ravaging insecurity in the nation.
Olumoh made this assertion at a Ramadan lecture series held in honour of his late father, that a secured local government is a precursor to having a secured nation, he urged clerics to facilitate a scheme that will critically engage and empower the youths from the grassroots level upwards against social vices .
“In the mosques and churches, we should engage the youths, it is about preaching unity. The song of war and division will not pay anybody, in unity lies our strength in the country,”
In our local government, we have a very powerful local vigilante in this community and we engage them from time to time, we discuss on how to have absolute peace, that is why despite the turmoil everywhere, we have been enjoying relative calm and everybody can attest to that.  he stated.
The lawmaker who is the Chairman House Committee on Public Private Partnership added that ,”It is an annual event which we have been doing for the past 29 years during the lifetime of my Dad, who was the Chairman of all the Imams and Alfas in the all entire Ajeromi  Ifelodun Local Government.
“We do this to appreciate this month of Ramadan, our women folk especially look forward to receiving things from us. It also affords us the opportunity to meet with them especially the widows.
“One of the products of this event is my emergence as the lawmaker representing this constituency at the house of Assembly, because my nature is to give at all times but the entire members of this constituency invited me into politics.
“They asked me to come and politick and that is why they sent me to the house of Assembly to represent them, believing that when I get to the house,I  will do more for them.
Hon. Olumoh gave the charge while fielding questions from newsmen during an annual Ramadan Lecture and Prayers in his constituency.
In recognition of his immense contributions to the community, the youth association in the area also bestowed an award on him.
The legislator also gave out cash gifts to 51 widows to signal his unfettered magnanimity towards his constituents.
On the security challenges militating against the peace of the nation, the lawmaker noted that, “it is a pathetic situation and we are using this month of Ramadan to pray for peace and tranquility in Nigeria.
“It is about prayer and walking the talk as well, I am sure Mr President will also do more in that regards.
“Our party’s National leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu said we need to recruit the youths into the military because if not Boko Haram and those into banditry will recruit them, we need to give jobs to our youths.
Speaking in the same vein, Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun L.C.D.A., Shuaib Ajidagba said the month of Ramadan affords opportunity to pray for peace in the country, noting “if there is peace other things we follow.”
Ajidagba assured the forthcoming local government election would be rancour free in the council, adding that “We will ensure capable hands take over from us.”
A local government chairman aspirant in the council, Leye Oyedun said he is convinced to emerge as the winner during the council poll.
He believes the people know what is best for them, adding “I have been living with my people for the past 20 years. I know their needs.”
The Secretary to the Ajeromi-Ifelodun council, Adebayo Garuba also advised Nigerians to come together to tackle insecurity.
He urged the Muslim faithful to use the month of Ramadan in praying for peace.
Mrs. Nimotalahi Olumoh, wife of the lawmaker notes that poor parenting remains the roots cause of prevailing moral decadence in the nation today.
According to her, 90 percent of the blame goes to the parents.
“It has to do with their upbringing, if these children are brought up the right way,I want to believe when you raise your ward with the fear of God,when they grow up they will not depart from that path.
” But most parents are laickadasical in the way they nurture their children as a result they leave them uncared for and unattended to.
” Peer influence has a lot to do with a child’s development, what they tend to learn amongst their peers would form their major decisions about life when they grow up, so I think the major blame should go to the parents.
In his lecture, Sheikh Musa Agboola advised politicians to shun rancour during electioneering process, saying “Allah is the final decider, every other person is a mere supporter.”
The Cleric warned political leaders to desist from selfish tendencies, adding that “leaders should consider the interest of their followers as paramount for them to earn the blessings of Allah.”
