Inside Tinubu and son's torture chambers

THE horrifying torture chambers of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his son, Seyi Tinubu, where the President of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Atiku Abubakar Isah’s body was lacerated signpost how ruthless, power-hungry and merciless Tinubu’s administration has become.

Comrade Isah accused Seyi Tinubu of orchestrating the attack that led to him being stripped and filmed naked for a video that was to be circulated to humiliate him among friends and family for refusing a N100m bribe to support President Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid.

“Armed thugs loyal to Seyi Tinubu stormed the Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro during a NANS event. The attackers were wielding cutlasses and firearms, disrupted the ceremony, assaulted guests, looted valuables, and forced high-profile dignitaries like Senator Ibrahim Shekarau and former Kogi State Governor Idris Wada to flee for safety,” Isah said.

Tinubu’s brutal regime is gradually aping that of Mao Zedong of China, whose scorched-earth nihilistic dictatorship grounded nearly 70 million people to remain in power. The barbaric torture, deliberate paranoid and militaristic conquest adopted by the Tinubu’s family towards purging and executing dissenting voices is an added gasoline to set the country aflame.

Granted that it wouldn’t be the first time reckless and absolute power would reduce humans to caricatures of beastly creatures, it is troubling indeed that a supposed democrat is anchoring his administration on an exploitative, perilous, atrocious, cruel, and sadistic premise to remain in power at all costs and by all means.

What played out with the NANS President’s physical and psychological brutalization shows that we’re merely steps away from forced labour, absolute torture, and mass killings to extract allegiance from dissenting voices and we’re already muffled for absolute power.

Comrade Isah Abubakar made serious allegations against Seyi Tinubu, bordering on threats to eliminate him, which raises the point that the president’s son might be truly sadistic, cruel, and bloodthirsty, even though he denied the allegations despite viral video recording of the horrendous event at the hotel.

This is another reason President Tinubu’s human rights records remain blighted. The alleged torture and abuse of the NANS President, coupled with that of over 200 minors from Northern Nigeria who protested in favour of good governance last year, has become a serious violation of human rights and has undermined trust in his government.

This incident raises the question about accountability. Only a few hours ago, Seyi Tinubu only bothered to muster an incoherent response to the weighty allegations, signaling and buttressing his earlier statements that he’s above the law. Seyi’s involvement in the incident suggests a disregard for the rule of law and the institutions that are meant to protect citizens’ rights.

For President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to earn the legitimacy needed to pilot a diverse multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multicultural state, and considering the widespread allegations suggesting that he’s a criminal striving to achieve electoral legitimacy, the president has no option but to cause a thorough investigation into the incidence and for those responsible to be held accountable.

We must not forget that at the heart of this tragic underpinning is the rejection of impunity, bribery, evil barbarism, objectionable dictatorship, totalitarianism and temporary tokenism. It’s truly troubling that Nigerians have come to the firm conclusion that Tinubu and Son’s torture chambers have come to stay, as the other arms of government that ought to check these infractions on the human rights of Nigerians have been deliberately compromised and rendered incompetent and impotent.
