As Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman is at verge of taking a bow at the Old Trafford club, the Red Devils have made the big decision to appoint his successor.

National Daily recalls that the club has earlier in April announced that Ed Gareth Woodward will be quitting his role at United before the end of the year following the upshot from the Red Devils’ attempt to join the European Super League.

Woodward who joined United in 2005 later became the club’s executive vice-chairman in 2012 when he replaced David Gill and has since then overseen the operations of the Old Trafford club

Meanwhile, the 49-year-old Woodward is believed to have continued to play a key role behind the scenes despite his looming departure and was thought to have played an integral part of the club’s move to secure the recent reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Though, that is likely to be his last major contribution before his exit and United’s board have been working tirelessly to find a replacement to fill one of the most powerful jobs in world football.

National Daily can confirm from the report by Sky News that, after a thorough search, the Premier League giants have elected to promote Richard Arnold – currently group managing director at the club – to the role.

It was believed that United’s search was narrowed down to three main candidates, all of whom were already at the club, with a clear preference to promote Woodward’s successor internally.

National Daily further learnt that an official announcement confirming that Arnold – who first joined United in 2007 as commercial director – will take over from Woodward could be made as early as October.

However, the decision has yet to be formally signed off by the club’s owners, the Glazers, and may be delayed, though the announcement should be made before the end of the year when Woodward steps down even when United have declined to comment on the reports, describing them only as ‘speculation’.
