Kperogi reacts as Tinubu accuses political opponents of misinterpreting his comments on Buhari
According to news filtering into the country’s media space, the self-styled All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has come out to clear the air on the comments he made earlier on.
Recall that while addressing party delegates in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Thursday, the former Lagos governor had stated that without his help, Muhammadu Buhari wouldn’t have become president back in 2015. He also went on to insist that it was now his turn to take the reins of power beyond 2023.
However, in the wake of the severe criticism that greeted his remarks, the former Lagos Governor has come out to blame his detractors for misconstruing the true intentions of his comments.
In a statement issued through his Director of Media and Communications, Asiwaju insisted that his speech in Abeokuta did not demonstrate any disrespect to Buhari, adding that he has always held the president in high regard. He also accused his opponents in the APC of seizing upon the chance to turn and twist his statements to suit their narratives.
Quite interestingly, Jagaban’s attempt to clear the air on the true intent of his speech has also been greeted with criticism by some political observers.
According to a tweet by renowned political analyst and author, Farooq Kperogi, it would have been more honorable if Jagaban had not said anything at all in the first instance.
Chiding the former Lagos Governor for losing his cool at the most crucial point in his political career, Kperogi insisted that Asiwaju’s attempt to retract his statements might end up being a futile effort because the damage had already been done.
