The Transmission Company of Nigeria has said it has begun the restoration of the National grid to restore electricity supply hours after the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress suspended its indefinite strike.

This comes after the organised labour suspended its strike action for one week following renewed commitment from the federal government.

Following the strike suspension, TCN said power recovery has begun with the Shiroro Hydropower Substation which will then restore supply to Katampe substation.

TCN in a statement on Monday confirmed that the nationwide blackout was caused by the organized Labour’s planned strike.

“At about 3.23am, however, TCN commenced grid recovery, using the Shiroro Substation to attempt to feed the transmission lines supplying bulk electricity to the Katampe Transmission Substation.

The situation is such that the labour Union is still obstructing grid recovery nationwide.

“We will continue to make efforts to recover and stabilize the grid to enable the restoration of normal bulk transmission of electricity to distribution load centres nationwide”, TCN stated on Monday.

Recall that the organized labour on Monday shut down the country’s National grid to press home their demand for a new minimum wage implementation.

However, at the time of filing the report, the power supply is yet to be restored by Electricity Distribution Companies.
