Lagos Taskforce impounds 128 illegal “Okada” motorcycles in crackdown on unlawful uperations

The Lagos State Taskforce has seized 128 commercial motorcycles, commonly known as “Okadas,” for operating illegally in various parts of the state.
CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, confirmed the seizure in a statement released on Sunday by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Gbadeyan Abdulraheem.
According to Akerele, the motorcycles were impounded during operations in Sabo Ikorodu, Berger, and Ikotun, while enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycle activities in restricted areas of Lagos.
Akerele reiterated the taskforce’s firm commitment to curbing illegal motorcycle operations in the state, emphasizing that both riders and passengers found in violation of the ban would face legal consequences.
“Passengers on Okadas are as guilty as the motorcycles riders. If caught, they will face the full weight of the law alongside the riders,” he stated.

He also assured the public that the taskforce would continue to work diligently to ensure Lagos roads remain safe and free from illegal motorcycle operations, which are prohibited in certain parts of the state due to safety concerns.
The chairman urged residents to comply with the regulations, underscoring that these efforts are designed to protect both lives and property across Lagos.
“The Lagos State Taskforce remains committed to enforcing the law and ensuring that Lagos roads remain safe and motorable,” Akerele added.
The 128 impounded motorcycles will be forfeited to the Lagos State Government through the courts as part of the enforcement process.
