Man, 25, in court over alleged stealing of iron rods, planks
The police in Ado-Ekiti on Monday arraigned a 25-year-old man, Lawal Hamed, over alleged stealing of iron roads and planks.
The defendant, who has no fixed address, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.
Hamed, however, pleaded not guilty before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 29 at 1:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
Okunade alleged that the defendant stole 12mm iron rods and some plank, all valued at N296,100.
He said that the iron roads and planks belonged to one Mr Babalola Ayodele, adding that the alleged offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The Magistrate, Mrs Titilayo Ogunsina, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ogunsina ordered that one of the sureties must provide a landed property.
She adjourned the case until March 24 for substantive hearing.
