Man blows up his own head in first suicide by gun in Kwara
Nigeria has been recording an increase in the number of suicide as citizens find it easy to do—but not so much in a fashion recorded in Ilorin September 10.
A 47-year-old man in Koro, Ekiti LGA, Kwara did himself in a manner that didn’t just surprise many, but also left a lot of things hanging.
Suicides in Nigeria have mostly favored Sniper, a pesticide, and hanging as a means to end it all. And most Nigerians are getting used to the news.
Without a suicide note or anything to reveal why Olanrewaju Abioye acted the way he did, what was left as a tell-tale of what happened was usual.
In his room at Ore compound was his shattered head, and a dane gun already discharged, on the floor.
Most suicides by firearms involved the use of handguns. And the mouth–or generally the head– is known to be one of the main site of suicide-related gunshot wounds worsened by the impact of the bullet, explosive gases, and the effect of the cavity, according to forensic experts.
The police has not responded officially to the incident.
Based on media content analyses, no fewer than 350 suicides were recorded between 2010 and 2019 in Nigeria. At least 51 people took their lives in the last 12 months, according to a report by the Daily Trust.
