NCC Denies Rumors of Telecom Tariff Hike, Urges Public to Disregard Misinformation
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has refuted circulating rumors suggesting the approval of new telecom tariff plans or an increase in existing tariffs.
In a recent statement, the NCC urged the public to disregard these misleading reports, clarifying that no such approvals have been issued.
The rumors, which originated from social media bloggers, falsely claimed that the NCC had sanctioned tariff hikes for major telecom operators such as MTN, Airtel, and Glo.
These erroneous claims suggested that the supposed increases would affect voice calls, SMS, data, and other services, leading to higher costs for Nigerian consumers.

In response, the NCC emphasized the need for accurate information and advised consumers to rely solely on official communications for updates.
The commission also directed telecom operators to simplify their current tariff plans to enhance transparency and fairness for consumers.
The NCC remains committed to protecting consumer interests and maintaining a fair and transparent telecom industry, aiming to counteract the spread of misinformation and reassure the public about the stability of telecom tariffs in Nigeria.
