NDLEA apprehends suppliers of drugs, ammunition to bandits in army uniform
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested suppliers of drugs, ammunition, and communication equipment to bandits in Kaduna State. The arrested bandits’ agents were caught in military uniform. They were identified as Hayatu Galadima, and Hamisu Adamu.
NDLEA in a statement disclosed that they were arrested last Friday by a patrol team of NDLEA officers along the Gwagwalada Expressway in Abuja.
The agency revealed that items recovered from them include 21 RLA 7.45mm ammunition concealed in a water bottle; 16 packs of new two-way radio (walkie talkie); four army coloured head masks; and a wallet containing an army ID. Other items include three mobile phones, seven Nigerian Army pass letters, five handbags, and a sack containing personal belongings, among other items.
Galadima identified to claim Lance Corporal serving in Ibadan, Oyo State; admitted the items were being ferried to Kaduna and Kano.
NDLEA, however, stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the duo may have links with bandits in the northwest and on their to supply the ammunition and the two-way radios to bandits to facilitate their operations after the suspension of telecommunications services in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kaduna states.
Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa, thereafter, directed the FCT Command of the Agency to transfer the suspects to the Nigerian Army and another intelligence agency that earlier placed both men on watch list.
