Norway asks citizens to refrain from Easter travel due to virus concerns
Norwegians were being asked to refrain from travel during April Easter holiday either by skipping trips within the country or not returning home from abroad to visit families due to Coronavirus.
“In recent weeks, the numbers have gone up again, and the more infectious variants will soon be the dominant virus variant,’’ Prime Minister Erna Solberg told parliament on Tuesday.
She added that she was waiting to see what effects stricter restrictions introduced at the municipal level would have before issuing more national rules.
However, measures such as a national ban on serving alcohol, limiting contacts and distance learning are still on the table, she said.
According to authorities, Oslo has particularly been hit by a swell in infections.
The number of infections in the capital on Tuesday was twice as high as just a week ago.
In the Grorud borough, for example, there were 765 infected people per 100,000 residents.
In Norway at large, almost 76,000 infections and 632 deaths related to the Coronavirus have been registered so far.
