NSCDC parades 2 suspects in Ebonyi over alleged solar batteries theft
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ebonyi on Monday paraded two suspects for alleged solar batteries theft from the Ebonyi State University ‘solar house.’
The NSCDC State Commandant, Lucy Samu, said that they were apprehended with 26 pieces of solar batteries stolen from the facility.
Samu represented by Mr Paul Odimba, the commands’ Public Relations Officer said that the suspects were apprehended by a combined team of the command and a neighbouring community’s vigilante.
“The suspects include: David Egbo and Emmanuel Okpara, but three other suspects who escaped are still being trailed by the command.
“The command was alerted of the theft on April 12 and we responded swiftly with the vigilante,” she said.
She noted that investigation into the matter was still ongoing as the suspects would be duly prosecuted afterwards.
Mr Felix Nwafor, Chief Security Officer of the Ebonyi State University said that the suspects switched-off the light in the solar house and carted the batteries.
“When I was alerted, I immediately sent signals across and in collaboration with a neighbouring community’s vigilante, two of the suspects were apprehended.
“We also deflected the tyres of the articulated vehicle which they brought for their operation,” he said.
One of the suspects, David Egbo said that he was deceived to engage in the act by his master who told him to assist in evacuating some electrical equipment he purchased.
