Osun APC crisis: Police Commissioner angry with Aregbesola’s loyalists, threatens litigation
The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Olawale Olokode, has expressed anger against The Osun Progressives, a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun Governor, over a petition to the Inspector General of Police, accusing the police in Osun State of bias in the political impasse rocking the state APC. Disputing the allegations, CP Olokode protested that the allegations against him by loyalists of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola was a plot to malign his integrity and plunge the image of the State Police Command into disrepute.
Dismissing the allegations as untrue, the CP threatened legal action if the politicians continue to accuse the police of prejudices in the conflicts between the current and former governors of the starter.
The Osun Progressives, comprising of supporters of former Governor Aregbesola in a petition to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba Ahmed, alleged bias by “the Commissioner of Police in Osun State is taking side in the crisis ravaging the APC in the state.
CP Olokede at a media briefing in Oshogbo, declared that the “Osun State Police Command has not and will not be an instrument of any political party;” adding that “the Command remains independent of any political interest” and promising to work in line with the prescribed rules and regulations guiding the Nigeria Police Force.
The CP cautioned that the Osun State Police Command under his supervision “will not tolerate any act capable of throwing the state into anarchy.”
Governor Oyetola has been having a running battle with the Interior Minister, Aregbesola, over the control of APC in the state.
