Police arraign man, 46, over alleged fraud, stealing
The Police on Wednesday in Lagos, arraigned a 46-year-old man, Oluwaseun Oladele, before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining money under false pretense.
Oladele, whose address was not known, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecution counsel, ASP Ukot Ikem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 23, through Bank transfer at Badagry area of Lagos
“Okuomose alleged that the defendant fraudulently collected N5, 453,000 from one Abosede Asaolu with the pretense of supplying her food items, a presentation, known to be false.
“The defendant on Dec. 1 and Dec. 4, 2020 also stole clothes valued at N1, 211,500, and 50 bags of local rice valued at N1, 050,000 as well as groundnut oil valued N180,000.
“The total sum of the foodstuffs stolen is N2, 441,500.
“The offence contravened Sections 312 and 287 of the Criminal Law lof Lagos state, 2015,’’ Ikem said.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adekomaiya adjourned the case until April 16, for mention.
