Police arraign man in court for allegedly spending fake currency
A 43-year-old man, Simeon Samson, who allegedly spent fake currency, was on Tuesday docked in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
The police charged Samson, whose address was not provided, with theft and spending fake currency.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 1, at about 1:15 a.m., at Triple 9 Hotel, Onipanu, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant gave the fake currency to one Adeosun Oluwatosin.
He said that the offences contravened sections 249(D) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Adeyemi, admitted the defendant to N200,000 bail, with one surety in like sum.
Adeyemi ordered that the surety, who must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government, must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She adjourned the case until Dec. 19, for further hearing.
