Prince Harry loses bid to pay for UK police protection
Former Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry has lost his bid to challenge the United Kingdom government over his security arrangements in the country.
This was disclosed in a ruling published on Tuesday.
The prince had asked for a legal review of a decision refusing him permission to pay for UK security.
Though he and his wife, Meghan, have their own private security team in the United States, Harry complained of insufficient access to UK intelligence for the safety of his family.
London’s Metropolitan Police opposed Harry’s offer that it would be wrong to “place officers in harm’s way upon payment of a fee by a private individual”.
During court proceedings, High Court judge Martin Chamberlain backed the interior ministry and police and refused Harry permission to challenge it in court.
Chamberlain said, “I refuse permission to apply for judicial review.”
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan lost their UK taxpayer-paid protection when they quit frontline royal duties in 2020 and moved to North America.
