Reopen Borno orientation camp – Reps tell NYSC
The management of the National Youth Service Corps have been asked by House of Representatives members, to reopen its orientation camp in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The decision was reached following the adoption of Usman Zannah’s motion during plenary. It was stated that despite peace in the state, the NYSC has refused to reopen the camp.
Zannah disclosed that the orientation camp which was shut down about 10 years ago following killings by the Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State, is yet to be reopened despite the “return of peace” to Borno State.
The house of reps member further said that in spite of Borno State Government making adequate arrangements to ensure the safety and wellbeing of corps members posted to the state, the NYSC management still chose to post corps members deployed to Borno State to undergo their orientation camp in Katsina State amidst the security challenges in the North West.
The lawmakers concluded by saying that the high rate of insecurity in Kastina State was capable of affecting corps members’ psychology and exposing them to bandit attacks while travelling for camping.
