Security withdrawn from Lagos Assembly Speaker amidst resignation speculations
The security detail assigned to Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, as well as those safeguarding the Assembly complex, have been withdrawn with immediate effect, leaving the Speaker vulnerable to potential threats.
A source within the Assembly confirmed the development, stating, “As we speak, all security escorts have been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own. The Speaker is vulnerable and open to attack. This is the situation now.”
Following intervention from key party leaders, there is speculation that Speaker Mojisola Lasbat Meranda may soon resign, potentially paving the way for either David Setonji or Wale Rauf to assume the position.

During the meeting, party elders reportedly urged Meranda to step down and return to her former role as Deputy Speaker, citing the need for regional representation in state leadership.
The withdrawal of security personnel raises concerns about the safety of the Speaker and the stability of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Political analysts believe that the ongoing leadership struggle could significantly impact governance in the state.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on Meranda’s next move and whether she will heed the advice of party stakeholders. If she steps down, the APC leadership is expected to swiftly announce a successor to maintain stability within the Assembly.
Further developments are expected in the coming days as political negotiations continue.
