Sheikh charged with blasphemy goes dumb in court; judge orders mental examination
Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara charged with blasphemy by Kano government played dumb in court, making Justice Sarki Yola order medical examination.
Government lead counsel Suraji Said had filed a fresh application as a substitute for the First Information Report which the police brought.
Kabara’s lawyer objected, and told his client to keep mum.
However, Yola agreed to approve the inclusion of the fresh charges filed by state’s lawyer Said leads, only if the accused answers in the affirmative or rejects the charges.
But the sheikh kept mum even when the judge asked him to take his plea.
This forced the judge to order medical examination on the brain and general well-being of the sheikh.
Yola adjourned the case to 16 September, 2021, for continued hearing in the case and to receive Kabara’s health report.
