South-South Govs set to set up regional security structure
The South-South Governors Forum at the meeting in Poer Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday resolved to establish regional security structure to complement the duties of the Nigerian military and the police in security management and prevention of breakdown of law and order in the region.
Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, at the end of the meeting, declared: “after an extensive deliberation, the Council resolved (that) bearing in mind that most of the BRACED states have established their state security organs, we approved the regional security architecture which will be launched very soon.”
Okowa added that the governors “equivocally support the decision for states to collect Value Added Tax and resolved to join the suit before the Supreme Court.”
The southwest states have already established their regional security structure named Amotekun, and the southeast states have also established regional security structure known as Ebube Agu.
Some states in the north also have internal security structures, for instance, Hishbah in Kano State.
The south-south states are coming from behind to establish regional security structure in the Niger Delta.
