ULC suspends nationwide strike

The United Labour Congress (ULC) of Nigeria has officially suspended the ongoing nationwide strike,since the Federal Government had already reckoned with the union,referred to earlier as illegal by calling it to a parley earlier today.

In order not to bring untold hardship on the masses,the ULC call for a halt of the five days old industrial action for a week.

It would be recalled that the strike action which was declared to start at exactly 12 o’clock midnight of  Friday 15th day of September was sequel to a fourteen day ultimatum issued by the union,after the expiration of which the strike action took effect.

According to the statement issued by the ULC,the decision to suspend the strike was taken after the meeting with the Federal Government delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Labour in Abuja earlier this morning.

“This is to allow current negotiation with the federal government continue in a peaceful atmosphere and to avoid the impending hardship which a continuation may have meant for Nigerians.

“All affiliates and state councils throughout Nigeria are affiliates and state councils throughout Nigeria are requested to suspend action until further notice!

“ULC wishes to thank all that have solidarised with us and those that have shown willingness to join  us if the action had continued despite not being our affiliates!

All parties have agreed to recommence negotiation next week so that areas of disagreement will be addressed adequately!
