As time passes, the threats to the life and well-being of the hostages intensify,” Edwards stated. “Only through empathy for all those affected by this terrible conflict can we hope for lasting peace.”
Alice Edwards, the UN independent human rights expert on torture, has called for the unconditional release of all Israeli hostages in Gaza.
In a statement on Tuesday, she condemned the recent killings of six hostages and urged an immediate halt to hostilities.
Following the October 7 terror attack by Hamas and other groups, approximately 250 individuals were taken hostage, with 97 still unaccounted for.
