Update: Niger military delegation in Mali for dialogue
A delegation of the Niger Republic military, led by General Salifou Mody, on Wednesday, arrived Bamako, Mali, for dialogue with the military government of the neighbouring country.
A senior Nigerien official and a Malian security official, were said to have disclosed that Mody, a former army chief of staff who was fired in April but was among the coup plotters that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum, arrived Bamako as the head of a delegation.
The military governments in Mali and Burkina Faso had in a joint statement last Monday, issued strong warning to the ECOWAS leaders that they would view military intervention in Niger as a “declaration of war” against their own countries.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) leaders had threatened potential use of force if the military regime in Niger does not restore ousted President Mohamed Bazoum within seven days, elapsing on Sunday.
