Why I will support President Tinubu again – Asari Dokubo
Former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo has explained why he supported President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election—and why he would gladly do it again.
Speaking with Arise TV on Tuesday, October 29, Dokubo said Tinubu saved him from the fury of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo. “I supported Mr. President because I knew him before he became senator, president, and, God willing, I will also know him when he ceases to be president.

This discussion isn’t really about me or even Tinubu; it’s truly centered around my people and their needs. When I talk about my people, I want you to focus on them and not on my individual experiences or background. I see myself as just one person in a larger community. My connection with Tinubu has always been strong and meaningful. However, I have to be honest and say that throughout our relationship, the advantages I gained always flowed in one direction; all the benefits came from Tinubu to me.
There was only one occasion when I felt I could return the favor, and that was when he decided to run for the position of president. On that occasion, I gladly supported him. Even if he were to announce his candidacy again tomorrow, I would not hesitate to stand by him and offer my support once more. This is because, during a very difficult time in my life when Obasanjo was pushing me down and trying to bury my reputation, it was Tinubu who chose to stand by my side and support me. I will always remember his loyalty and kindness during that challenging time, and it is something I will never forget.
