Wike speaks on ASUU strike, blames uncommitted leaders
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, signing three bills into law at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Thursday, spoke on the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), attributing the irreconcilable industrial dispute to the consequence of electing leaders that are not committed to solving problems.
The governor acknowledged that the problem leading to the strike accumulated over the years, he stated that proper negotiations should have been able to resolve the dispute.
Governor Wike appealed ASUU members to reconsider some of their demands, noting that no administration can pay out the huge sum being demanded by the union at a go, with the present economic realities.
He also urged the federal government to show more understanding so as to end the ASUU strike and reopen the universities soon.
