WIMBLEDON 2023: World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz reacts to Nadal, Federer and Djokovic comparison
Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday defeated Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon 2023 men final to win his second Grand Slam.
The Spaniard has now responded to those who have compared him to Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
The 20-year-old world No.1 is tipped to dominate tennis in the coming years and his win over Djokovic on Sunday could be a a true changing of the guard.
Many have compared Alcaraz to legends in tennis and Djokovic himself feels that the young Spaniard has elements of himself, Nadal and Federer within his game
Compatriot Nadal has been tipped to join Federer in retirement come next year with Djokovic now admitting that he ‘doesn’t know how long he will be around’.
‘It’s crazy that Novak say that, honestly,’ Alcaraz said after winning maiden Wimbledon title.
‘But I consider myself a really complete player. I think I have the shots, the strength physically, the strength mentally enough to [deal with] these situations.
‘I don’t know. Probably he’s right. But I don’t want to think about it. I going to think that I’m full Carlos Alcaraz, let’s say, but probably I have some great ability from every player.’
Alcaraz admits that beating Djokovic in such a huge match has changed how he views the Serbian having lost to him in the French Open semi-finals last month.
‘Before this match, I thought I can’t beat Novak,’ Alcaraz added. ‘That’s obvious. But after this epic match, let’s say, yeah, I think different about Novak in the way that probably in other tournaments, in other Grand Slams, I will remember this moment.
‘I will think that, well, I’m ready to play five sets against him, good rallies, good sets, really long, long match, and stay there physically, mentally, in tennis, in general… Probably it change my mind a little bit after this match.’
