Woman arrested defrauding business partner of `garri’ worth N1.9m.
A 44-year-old woman, Banke Amosu, was on Monday docked before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State , for allegedly defrauding her business partner of 132 bags of cassava flakes popularly called `garri’ valued N1,889,000.
Amosu, whose address was not disclosed in court, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP. Clément Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between Jan. 27 and Feb. 6, at Osun-Adura Street, Ibereko, Badagry in Lagos State.
Okuoimose said that the defendant allegedly obtained 132 bags of `garri’ from one Simiat Abolaji, her business partner, with the pretence of selling the commodity and returning the money which she did not do.
The prosecutor stated that the defendant stole 132 bags of `garri’ by converting the money she realised after selling them to her personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The National Daily reports that Section 287 stipulates three years’ jail term for stealing.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadaunsi Adefioye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adefioye said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction with evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government (LASG).
He adjourned the case until March 3, for mention.
