Women, youths dominate in 10.4m fresh voters’ registration – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the Quarter four, week 12, update on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) across the country, disclosed that women and youths dominate the fresh registration as the total number of newly registered voters rise to 10,487,972 as at 7 a.m. on July 4.
INEC highlighted that 3,314,169 registered through online, while 6,141,029 of the new voters did physical registration.
The commission also classified the gender registration, indicating that 4,682,036 of the newly registered voters are males, 4,773,162 are females, and 71,998 are Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
The commission further revealed the age distribution of the new voters, indicating that 6,698,446 are youths; 1,894,39 are of middle age between 18 and 34 years, 758,300 are the elderly between 50 to 69 years, and 104,056 are the old from 70 years and above.
INEC also acknowledged the receipt of 25,056,633 applications for voter transfer, requests for replacement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), update of voter information record, among others.
