The Widi-Jalo Foundation, based in Kano, has solicited community involvement and support to end lack of potable water in African communities.

The Founder of the foundation, Mr Abubakar Widi-Jalo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kano as part of activities commemorating the World Water Day, that community involvement was essential for residents to enjoy potable water supply.

According to him, we started our water project with the distribution of sachet water, when a sister donated some amount of money and specifically asked that we distribute sachet water during the last Ramadan period.

“The money donated was so much that we opted for distribution of water in tankers to areas in dire need of water in Kano during the lockdown.

“We first stumbled on villages in need of water while they were distributing food items to assist during the Ramadan and the lockdown in 2020.

“So we launched a water project and generated funds from the public and drilled three boreholes in the area.

“With the funds generated through social media platforms, the foundation conducted not less than 175 water projects in various communities,’’ he said.

Widi-Jalo said that in about eight months of the inception of the foundation, many communities in different states and Niger Republic were provided with access to potable water.

He said that the aim of the foundation was to provide potable water for many more areas in need of water.
